So I stumble... a lot. And once in a while I come across a site with quotes on them. Usually I just think "meh, those are cool" or "I like what that's saying" and never think anything more of it... Well, not so much today. I was feeling "bloggy" but didn't have much to say, so much like a good friend of mine, I decided to just post pictures. So here you go :)

"But she'll bring out the best And the worst you can be"
She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child,
But she's always a woman to me
She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe you
And she'll take what you give her, as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me
CHORUS:
Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind
And she'll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But she'll bring out the best
And the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she's always a woman to me
--Mhmm--
Bridge
CHORUS:
Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind
She is frequently kind
And she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases
She's nobody's fool
And she can't be convicted
She's earned her degree
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But she's always a woman to me
--Mhmm--
I have no idea why, but this song always makes me smile :)

It's amazing what a little laughter can do...
Sorry for the absence from blogging... ok thats a lie, I can't apologize for not blogging. I just didn't have anything blog worthy to talk about, and honestly, it's a little self righteous to think that anyone really missed reading about my thoughts on mundane things. I digress...
Back to my main point. It's amazing what some laughter can do. It can help to start to heal old wounds and help remind you what's really important. I've been somewhat of an "anti-Ethan" of late. Letting little things bring me down. I've stopped being myself. I've stopped making jokes, and I've been uptight.
This last night I watched the entire fifth season of "How I Met Your Mother" with Teaira. It's been a long long time since I've laughed that hard. I felt like the old Ethan. The care free and fun Ethan. I don't know how to explain it, but I feel fixed. I feel refreshed and renewed. I feel like I always should...
Anyway, here's to keeping this up.

It's the Small Things (Part Deux)
Isn't it funny? The way the smallest things or events have the largest impact on our lives. Seemingly mundane things can be the most meaningful and formative events. Be it sushi and some tiramisu, or a late night watching movies and talking. It's REALLY the small things that remind you of how lucky you are, how appreciated you are, and just how happy one person can make you.

Holy Melismas Batman!!!
Well I have all of my rep for next semester... Plunking through them is intense. I have three Handel pieces (BTW I Freaking LOVE Handel) and they are melisma heavy to say the least. The first is Si spetata, il tuo Rigore from Giulio Cesare and it looks to be a blast. Lots of fun diatonic melismas. The other two are from the Messiah and are Thus Saith the Lord, and But Who May Abide. Very challenging pieces with more chromatic melismas. I'm just so excited to learn these and knock them out of the park next year! I can't wait!

Eureka!
I think I might have figured it out... I need to just prove to myself that I am a better person than I have been... Make the changes in myself that I need too... thats really the only way I can forgive myself. And honestly, I think I'll be better for all the mistakes I have made...
I'm My Own Worst Enemy...
I've screwed up big time, and even though I've been forgiven, I wake up every morning and flog myself emotionally... "How could I have been so unlike myself? How could I have been so inconsiderate? How could I have been so antagonistic? How could I have been so selfish?" Every time I think about it, I feel sick... I feel like the worst person on the face of the planet... It makes me want to cry every time I think about it... I need to find a way to forgive myself, but again its the morning... I feel like throwing up and crying again... I can't believe myself.. how could've I let myself become this monster? I've changed for the better because of it but it terrifies me that I might have caused too much damage... Blah! again with the sick and weepy feelings... :( How do I fix me?

SO MUCH TENSION!!!
seriously... so many knots in every single muscle in my body... holding a folder for 3 hours can cause some serious tension in your pectoral muscles. Thank God I'll be done with the creation after Saturday. Don't get me wrong, I love singing it; It's just time to perform it. After our last performance, its Easter Sunday, so it's not all bad :) I can't wait to watch "Easter Parade" with Teaira (my wonderful girlfriend,) Jen, and Conrad; or as he likes to call himself, "Steven". Potato Potato, I say. (that colloquialism doesn't quite have the same affect when it's typed out... oh well)
-Anyways-
Heres to a great weekend, and great dead week. See you at the finish line :)

Captain's Log: Stardate 64689.2
Well it's been a fabulous first half of spring break. Lots of relaxing, spending time with friends and not much studying or practicing. A fact that I have to change today. My to do list for today is as follows:
Finish memorizing my figaro scene
Memorize my french and german pieces
Nap... lots of napping.
and thats about it.
I also have put myself on self-enforced house arrest. I seriously cannot spend anymore money and the best way for me to do that is to not leave my house. So all I can say is please come visit me!!!

What a start
What a fabulous start to my spring break. I went to SLC with Teaira (my wonderful, wonderful girlfriend) and Luis (my best friend). We went down to see the opera "Little Women." First things first, the opera was wonderful. The set was simple yet elegant. The costuming was spot on to what you would expect. The lady who played Jo was spectacular. She was funny, coy, experienced and jaded all at the same time. Wonderfully acted and sung. The only weak part of the opera was the guy who played Laurie. While definitely not the worst tenor in the world, he was far from the best too. Although it took me by surprise to hear him searching for pitches, the longer I listened, then longer I knew something was wrong with his health. He was definitely sick. His tone was too thin and weak. So I'm sure he is an amazing singer, it probably was a bad night for him vocally (we all have those). After the opera we went to Ichiban for sushi. I didnt have the sushi as I was really really hungry and wanted something a little more substantial. Ichiban was a little pricey but well worth it. We turned it in after that. The next day we found a really cool little coffee shop called "Jack Mormon Coffee". It was a cool little place. We all went to breakfast at the "classy" denny's, then went to the gateway mall. The mall was really really cool. Lots of nice shops and boutiques. Everything was really expensive of course. We found that my pant size is now 34x30 (hurray!) After the mall we went to a nifty little store called "Spark" and found Teaira a super cute red straw cloche hat. The store next door was called decades and was a vintage clothing store, so we spent a little time in there too. Our friends Evan and Abbi told us that we had to go to the Ikea, so we found Ikea and spent the rest of the day in there. Teaira was dead set on finding something to by there so when she has her own apartment she can say "I got this at the Ikea." She found a really cool cheese grater. After that we drove all the way back to Pokey...
When I got home, I just thought to myself "this is going to be a great spring break."

"Who could ask for anything more"
Really, I cannot ask for anything more. I've got a talent that I'm going to school to hone and polish, I've got a group of friends that can't be rivaled by anyone. My girlfriend is well... she's just amazing; we'll leave it at that :) I'm happy, contented and couldn't ask for anything more. Idaho has done me well. I know that most people here want to be somewhere else, but I know, right now, for me, I couldn't imagine myself being anywhere else in the world.
So thank you. Thank you Teaira, Luis, Derek, Nanette, Abby, Evan, Abbi, and everyone else... Thank you.

On Appreciation
I have so many wonderful friends. I really do, and I appreciate each and everyone for everything they are. I try to compliment them every day, even if its the little things. "Your hair looks very nice today" "You seem in a good mood today" "You're super funny today". I try to find something. And I hope by doing that, they realize that they are appreciated. I know its sometimes easy to slip into the mode of "They know that I appreciate them", I know that I can do that every once in a while, but it's always nice to hear it as well. So reader(s), tomorrow when you see someone you appreciate, let them know. Compliment them on any little thing. Even though it might seem small, it means more than just a good hair day or a cute clothing day. It shows that you notice, and you care.
My little tidbit of advice :)

...wow...
This is new... I really don't have any problems... Sure money's tight, sure theres a lot of work to be done for school, but thats nothing new. Literally everything is going wonderfully, so when people ask me "how are you today?" and I answer "Great!" it is the truth. I am great. Like Alexander the... Lifes good and I plan on keeping this greatness going for a while.

mouth... is... broken...
Seriously... after drilling Italian for literally hours, my mouth is broken. Words are not forming in the correct way. Which in itself is hilarious. The not so funny part is when your words come out flawlessly, but the words are the wrong ones.
Seriously kids. Think before you speak.

On Trials and Tribulations
What a week... I mean what a week... I cant remember the last time when I have felt such stress... but it is Saturday night... actually right around 11:30 and that means that a new week is about to begin. A new week where I truly appreciate the friends in my life, where I can sit down and enjoy the small things in life, a week where I get back to what I do well: living simply and fully. I've spent too much time worrying about things out of my own control. I need to remember to keep thinking "C'est la vie" and " Que Sera, Sera". The big picture things are out of my control and really shouldn't worry me right now. I can only worry about myself and my best friends and how I can better them, and how they can better me. Its been an insane week, but I really feel I'm better for it. My relationships are stronger and healthier for all of the craziness that occurred during this week, and honestly, if we can all get through what happened, we can get through anything. I'm not letting anyone go, not letting anyone slip away. They all mean too much to me. Our group is here to stay, through thick and thin. Through the good times and the bad, we'll have each other to lean on. It wont be easy when the going gets tough, but to know that I have a group of friends that can support me, and that can look to me for support. It's a beautiful thing, and something I haven't really experienced until this week. Sure things have been fun, but the real test of a friendship is when things turn from fun to hard, and how we show grit and perseverance in the toughest of situations. We've all shown that grit, and we're all still here :) so thank you. You all mean the world to me. Heres to the spring semester. Things can only improve from here on out.

Correction
So its not the small things that really "matter" but they sure do help you stay grounded and level headed. Try to find some level of enjoyment in everything you do. Thats all I'm trying to say
Its the small things
When things get really stressful, or things just get tough, its easy to focus on the stress. Lord knows I've been focusing on that in the last week. Just today I had to remind myself what really matters. Its the small things. Its the syrup soaked pancakes, the naps on the couch and the overly cheesy British sitcoms. Tonights been a good night. Gotta enjoy the simple things when you can.
